Medvedev: Russia and the United States have reached an agreement on the five-year extension of the new START treaty

On January 27 local time, Medvedev, vice chairman of the Russian Federal Security Council, said on the social networking site that the United States and Russia have reached an agreement on the extension of the new START treaty for five years. He is personally very happy that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Biden have reached an agreement so quickly to extend the treaty, which will be an important guarantee for maintaining world strategic stability. At present, the new START treaty is the only major effective arms control treaty between Russia and the United States. Previously, Russia and the United States held several rounds of negotiations on the extension of the new START treaty, but no substantive progress has been made. (CCTV reporter Xu Hongbo)
