In recent years, the incidence rate of thyroid diseases has risen rapidly. The prevalence rate of hyperthyroidism in big city has reached 3.7%, and about 30000000 of the patients are young women. Many people don’t know about hyperthyroidism. In fact, it is a series of problems caused by too many thyroid hormones.

The thyroid gland produces too much hormone

Hyperthyroidism is hyperthyroidism. Peng Lin, Professor of Guangzhou Medical and your diagnosis and treatment center, said that although for ordinary people, more thyroid hormones can be called hyperthyroidism. But from a medical point of view, strictly speaking, hyperthyroidism is only when there is something wrong with the thyroid gland and it produces too much hormone. If it’s not a thyroid problem, it’s due to other reasons, such as excessive medication, which leads to an increase in thyroid hormones in the blood.

According to Peng Lin, the thyroid gland has three functions. The first is to increase oxygen consumption and promote metabolism; the second is to grow high, which is particularly important for bone development and maturity; the third is conducive to intellectual development. Lack of thyroxine, will lead to neonatal mental retardation, growth retardation, adult memory loss, slow reaction.

Too much thyroid hormone eating “heart not stomach”

Thyroid hormone, there will be a variety of discomfort, often sweating, easy to get angry, neck swelling and other symptoms.

Peng Lin said that too much thyroid hormone will lead to sympathetic excitement, people are prone to fear of heat, sweating, it is easy to be hungry, in a state of high metabolism. Moreover, hyperthyroidism is prone to accelerate intestinal peristalsis and increase the frequency of defecation. Some people eat things “heart does not go stomach”, eat more excretion also fast.

In addition to sweating more, got hyperthyroidism is also very easy to have rapid heartbeat, panic, shortness of breath and other symptoms. In a quiet state, our normal heart rate should be 60-90 beats / min, but the heart rate of hyperthyroidism patients can reach more than 100 beats / min, or even more than 120 beats / min.

Mentally, people with hyperthyroidism are also prone to irritability, insomnia or poor sleep quality.

Why do you get hyperthyroidism

Peng Lin said that data show that 80% – 85% of the cases belong to autoimmune hyperthyroidism, which is called Graves’ disease, that is, the immune system attacks itself.

Generally speaking, we need to take blood to check the nail function and understand the abnormal degree of nail function. If TT3 / TT4 and FT3 / ft4s are increased and TSH is decreased, that is “two high and one low”, it indicates that hyperthyroidism is of high degree. Usually doctors also recommend thyroid ultrasound at this time to observe thyroid morphology for auxiliary diagnosis. When the blood and ultrasound “strong combination”, doctors can more accurately diagnose the cause of hyperthyroidism.

Tips in the treatment of hyperthyroidism

When hyperthyroidism comes, there are also “three axes” in the treatment: drugs, radioactive iodine-131 and surgery.

(1) Medication: the technical term is “antithyroid hormone therapy”, which is suitable for teenagers, pregnant women and people who can’t operate. The advantage of taking medicine in time is more convenient, but the disadvantage is that the course of treatment is long, usually 1-2 years, and it is easy to relapse.

(2) Iodine – 131 treatment: iodine – 131 has a certain amount of radioactivity, which can kill thyroid cells and produce less hormone naturally. When encountering some situations, doctors will recommend the use of iodine-131 treatment, such as GD + neck swelling, drug allergy, poor efficacy.

(3) Surgical treatment: surgery is not the preferred treatment for hyperthyroidism, and surgery is rarely considered, because surgery may lead to hoarseness, scars, upper limb paralysis and other complications and sequelae. But it is also suitable for some patients: Hyperthyroidism with adenoma, poor efficacy, not suitable for iodine-131 treatment.
