Cairo, January 31 (Xinhua) Ali gamravi, spokesman of the Egyptian drug administration, said in a statement on the 31st that the agency had approved the emergency use of the new AstraZeneca vaccine produced by the Indian Serum Institute in Egypt on the 30th.
The statement said that the Egyptian drug administration conducted the necessary evaluation of the vaccine to ensure the quality, safety and effectiveness of the vaccine. At present, the agency is also evaluating other new vaccines.
Egypt’s unified procurement Bureau issued a statement on the same day, saying that Egypt ordered 20 million doses of AstraZeneca new crown vaccine, and the first 50000 doses were delivered to the capital Cairo on the same day. The vaccines are produced by the Serum Institute of India and have been authorized by Oxford University and AstraZeneca.
Egypt officially approved the emergency use of Sinopharm Xinguan inactivated vaccine in Egypt on February 2, and began to vaccinate medical staff with Sinopharm Xinguan vaccine on January 25. Egypt’s Ministry of Health said on the 29th that 1315 health care workers in Egypt have been vaccinated with the vaccine.
