Cuban volunteers vaccinated with the new crown candidate vaccine

Medical workers examine vaccinated volunteers at a general clinic in Havana, Cuba, on January 28.

The “sovereign 02” new crown candidate vaccine developed locally in Cuba entered the phase II clinical trial stage in late December last year, which is the first locally developed new crown candidate vaccine in Latin America. Recently, the researchers expanded the sample size in the current phase II clinical trial to inject the vaccine to 900 volunteers aged between 19 and 80. Vicente BERES, director of gubafinli Vaccine Research Institute, said that Cuba plans to vaccinate “sovereign 02” free of charge for all of Cuba within this year.
