According to foreign media sources quoted by the global times, a spokesman for the National League for democracy of Myanmar said on February 1 local time that Myanmar’s state minister and foreign minister Aung San Suu Kyi and other political leaders were “detained by the military”. The spokesman said, “based on what we have seen, we have to guess that the military is launching a coup.”

In addition to Aung San Suu Kyi, Burmese president Wen Min and several other leaders were “taken away” that morning, the spokesman said, Reuters said. “I want to tell people not to react rashly, I want them to act according to the law,” the spokesman added, adding that he himself could also be detained.
