Simultaneous infection or mutation acceleration of two mutated neocoronaviruses in Brazilian patients

Researchers in southern Brazil say they have found two confirmed cases of simultaneous infection with two variant new coronaviruses, the Central News Agency reported. At present, the variety of Brazilian mutant virus continues to increase, and the situation is worrying.

Brazilian researchers recently published the findings on medrxiv, a medical website. However, the study has not been published in scientific journals and has not been peer reviewed.

Both patients were in their 30s, the report said. In late November 2020, they were infected with the p.2 variant virus found in Rio and tested positive for another variant virus.

The two are said to have mild symptoms, one with a dry cough and the other with cough, sore throat and headache. None of them need hospitalization.

The report pointed out that two cases showed that there may be a variety of variants of the new coronavirus is spreading in Brazil. This also worries scientists that the presence of two virus strains in the same person may accelerate the mutation of the mutated virus.

“This co infection may cause the virus to combine and even produce new variants faster than before,” said Fernando spilky, a virologist at the University of fairville and the lead researcher of the study. &This will become another way for viruses to evolve. ”

The report said that the emergence of new mutated viruses not only brings the risk of increased infectious power, but also may make the vaccine under development invalid. Mutated viruses found in the UK and recently in Brazil seem to be more transmissible.
