Source Title: China Africa cooperation, exchange of agricultural “get rich”
Since the establishment of the Forum on China Africa cooperation more than 20 years ago, China’s cooperation with African countries in various fields has been deepening, and agricultural cooperation has made positive progress. Agricultural technology exchanges between China and Africa have contributed to the enhancement of food supply capacity and poverty reduction in African countries.
&”Good taste” creates a good day
In the endless rice fields of Saisai City, capital of Mozambique’s Garza Province, several tractors work together to cover seeds, open ditches, and drones hover in the air to spray herbicides.
China Africa Saisai agricultural cooperation project is currently China’s largest rice planting project in Africa. In order to further improve the planting efficiency, the new dry direct seeding technology was used in the new rice planting season. After more than three months of hard work, the project added 3000 mu of reclaimed farmland on the basis of repairing 37000 mu of farmland in the previous quarter, and the total area of rice planting exceeded 40000 mu.
&”We summarized the planting experience of the first three years, sowing ahead of time, introducing advanced planting technology and resources, adopting a variety of sowing modes, greatly improving the planting speed and seedling survival rate. The application of UAV and other modern agricultural technologies has effectively improved the efficiency of sowing and field management. &Hu Jigao, who is in charge of the project, said that by adopting the “company + small farmers” cooperative planting mode, the company is responsible for land reclamation, ditch cleaning and cofferdam construction. Chinese agricultural experts take local farmers to sow seeds and teach rice planting, agricultural machinery operation and other technologies.
Relying on the income from planting rice last season, the local farmers Manuel & middot; bila recently renovated their house inside and outside and added a few new cows. There are 15 people in bila family. They used to live by herding cattle. Seeing that the living standards of his friends around him have been improved by planting Chinese rice, bila also applied to the local government for cooperation in planting. &Last season, my family planted two hectares of rice, with an average grain yield of 467 kg per mu. The money I earned was equivalent to the income I had worked for a year and a half before. &”I want to learn more about planting and strive for a better harvest so that my family can live a better life.”;.
China Africa Saisai agricultural cooperation project is invested and supported by China Africa Development Fund and managed by China Railway 20th Bureau under China Railway Construction Corporation. At present, the project mainly focuses on rice planting, supplemented by planting a variety of grain and cash crops, integrating farmland development, grain production, storage, processing and sales. When Mozambican President gebuza inspected the project, he happily named the rice produced here “good taste”;. Today, good taste has become a household name in Mozambique.
In April 2020, Mozambique entered a state of emergency to prevent and control the epidemic. The import of grain and other bulk commodities has been seriously hindered, and the price of finished rice on the market has risen and it is difficult to transport. The project actively contacted with the local government and investors and reached an agreement. After the stored rice was processed into finished rice, it was distributed to cooperative farmers at cost price, and then the purchase money was settled in cash. After going through the registration and settlement procedures, the grower Adelina & middot; mancik received 150 kg of rice and danced happily at the gate of the plant area.
&”Leader” cultivation demonstration field
&There are many brothers and sisters in my family. In the past, food was cut off all the year round. After planting hybrid rice, the whole family no longer worried about eating. I want to teach the villagers the ability to get rich. ” 27 year old Ernst is a villager of 4 villages in ringg, Jia hang, Jia Ba Zhi, Burundi, and also a farmer technician trained by China’s agricultural expert group in Burundi. Last year, he was assigned to live in the demonstration base in sibitok Province, following Chinese experts to travel in the fields to answer questions for farmers, and the local rice yield increased from 2 & mdash; 2.5 tons per hectare to 7 & mdash; 7.5 tons.
At present, more than 400 hectares of demonstration paddy fields in sibitok province have begun to be sown one after another, and Ernst continues to provide on-site guidance. &”I am very happy to see that the income of the villagers from planting hybrid rice has increased several times, and some families have built two-story buildings. ”
Ernst’s excellent work was awarded by banza Provincial Department of agriculture. There are many local rural leaders like Ernst. This year, China’s expert group on agricultural aid will send 36 farmers technicians to 12 provinces in Burundi to promote hybrid rice planting techniques. The expert group will also carry out experiments on 25 new rice varieties, as well as scientific research work on Apple experiments in high mountain areas and techniques for improving soil fertility by returning straw to the field on the spot.
China rice expert Yang Huade has been the head of the 3 phase of the expert group, and has won the &ldquo award from the Ministry of agriculture of Burundi; the outstanding contribution award ” According to Yang Huade, the local government learned from the experience of the construction of hybrid rice demonstration villages carried out by the expert group, reformed the management mode of agricultural support funds, developed hybrid rice according to the management mode of productive investment funds, realized the preservation of funds, promoted the industrial development, and clearly took the promotion of hybrid rice as the core work in the next seven years’ planning. &”We hope & lsquo; to help a project, develop an industry and enrich the people.”;. ”
&”China’s agricultural technology demonstration center in Africa has played a positive role in reducing poverty, eliminating hunger, ensuring food security, etc., promoting the increase of agricultural production and income, so as to further improve people’s livelihood and promote national development. ” President Enda I Lashmi Jerzy of Burundi highly appraised the work of the demonstration centre.
&The cuttings grow into a big orchard
At the China aid Togo agricultural technology demonstration center, the huge and red pitaya tell the story of Chinese experts “turning six cuttings into 10 mu orchards”.
The climate in Togo is similar to that in Hainan Province of China. The China aid Togo agricultural technology demonstration center decided to introduce cash crops suitable for local conditions. In October 2017, six pieces of Pitaya cuttings about 20 cm long were brought to Togo by Chinese experts from Hainan. During the introduction and planting of pitaya, Huang Caili, the director of the center, and his colleagues made a careful experiment, using the method of grass control and the combination of drip and flood irrigation to solve the problem of stem rot due to waterlogging. By the end of 2018, huolongguoshu had fruit. Through trial planting, it is proved that pitaya with high economic value can well adapt to the local land conditions.
Pitaya is also famous for its red flesh, refreshing taste and moderate sweetness. The plantation has become a popular “scenic spot” of the demonstration center, and local people have come to visit it. In July last year, batakat, then Minister of agriculture of Togo, came to learn about the planting situation and market situation of Pitaya. When he left, he took some branches with him, hoping to try planting in the Ministry of agriculture and promote this technology in Togo.
China aided Togo agricultural technology demonstration center to implement the circular agriculture mode of combining planting and breeding. In addition to pitaya, vegetables, rice and layers are also planted. Today, the layer farms of the demonstration center produce more than 8000 eggs a day, with an egg production rate of over 80%; the output of rice demonstration fields is 8 tons per hectare, 2.3 times the local average output; the monthly output of 1-2 tons of rice, corn and all kinds of vegetables is sold to Ghana and other neighboring countries in addition to meeting the market demand of Togo.
Chinese experts have helped Togo train more than 850 agricultural technicians. Himala used to be a bricklayer. Under the training of the demonstration center, she has become the personnel manager and agricultural technology director of the center and won the title of “outstanding employee of Togo Chinese enterprises”. Himala said that China’s experience in agricultural development is very much needed by the African people, and China has helped African countries to develop continuously with concrete actions.
