Santiago, January 19 (Xinhua) Chile’s Ministry of energy and Chile’s Ministry of transport and Telecommunications jointly launched an electric taxi replacement project on January 19 to promote electric travel. BYD of China won the bid and was qualified as the only supplier in the first stage of the project, supplying 50 pure electric vehicles for the project.
Chile’s energy minister Juan Carlos howette said at a news conference on the same day that the project will provide financing for taxi owners to replace ordinary vehicles with electric vehicles at preferential prices, as well as to purchase and install household charging equipment.
Tamara belios, head of BYD’s Chile business, said the company hopes to show the advantages of electric vehicles in environmental protection and cost reduction by participating in the project, continue to maintain its advantages in the local market and help green travel.
Chile proposes to achieve the goal of “carbon neutral” by 2050 in 2019, and the development of electric travel is one of the important measures to reduce carbon emissions in Chile.
